Extraction of Edge Segments (ESs)

  A subsequent aggregation step collects suitable EEs into a data   edge segment (ES) or DES. DESs for the image region in question are indicated in the component-panel of Figure 4 immediately above the one which shows the EEs themselves. Each ES is represented by a quadruple of data giving the x,y-coordinates of the center position in the image plane coordinate system, the orientation, and the length of the ES (see, e. g., [Deriche & Faugeras 90]).
